The Best Beach Clubs in Punta Mita: A Local’s Guide

If you are staying inside the gates of Punta Mita, the beach clubs are one of the biggest reasons to be here. But they are not interchangeable. Some are better for swimming, some for families, some for food, some for sunset, and some are simply better places to spend an entire afternoon.

I spend a lot of time at these clubs, and the answer to “Which beach club is best?” really depends on what you want that day. I personally spend the most time at Pacífico because it is convenient to many of the neighborhoods inside Punta Mita, but El Surf Club is my favorite overall.

This is the practical breakdown I give guests: where I would go, what each club does best, what I would order, and which ones I would skip depending on the situation.

Quick Answer: Which Punta Mita Beach Club Is Best?

Personal Favorite: El Surf Club
Best for families: Kupuri Beach Club
Best for convenience: Pacífico Beach Club
Best pool and quiet morning: Sufi Ocean Club
Best beach for sports: Kupuri Beach Club
Best for young adults: El Surf Club
Best for watching a game: Kupuri or Pacífico
Best for sunrise: Sufi Ocean Club
Best for sunset: Pacífico, El Surf Club, St. Regis or Four Seasons

A Note on Beach Club Access

The main Club Punta Mita beach clubs are private amenities inside the gated Punta Mita community. Rental access depends on the membership attached to the home or condo you are staying in, so confirm the exact privileges of your rental before arrival.

For many properties with Premier Membership privileges, the core options include Pacífico, Kupuri, Sufi Ocean Club, and El Surf Club. Bahía operates seasonally. St. Regis and Four Seasons are hotel-operated experiences with separate access requirements.

1. El Surf Club — My Favorite Overall

If I had to pick one Punta Mita beach club purely based on where I most enjoy spending the day, it would be El Surf Club.

It has the youngest and most energetic atmosphere of the clubs and is especially popular with teens and young adults. It is the place I would choose when I want the beach to feel social rather than purely relaxing.

Why I like it

The beach is excellent for surfing and swimming, and it is also a great place to simply hang out on the sand.

The food is excellent, and Surf Club frequently brings in pop-up restaurant concepts, which keeps the experience interesting even if you have been many times.

It also has an awesome sunset. On weekends, there is often a DJ, which gives Surf Club more energy than the other beach clubs. If you want music, people around, a good meal and a beach day that can naturally turn into sunset drinks, this is the one.

The trade-off: location

The biggest downside is distance.

El Surf Club is farther away from many of the residential communities inside Punta Mita. Depending on where you are staying, the golf-cart ride can be around 20 minutes.

I still think it is worth making the trip, but I would plan to stay for a while rather than drive over for a quick lunch.

My take: Best overall atmosphere and my personal favorite. Go when you want a more lively beach day, surfing, good food and sunset.

2. Pacífico Beach Club — The Best Everyday Option

Pacífico is one of the favorite clubs among Punta Mita members, and it is probably the club I personally use most often.

A big reason is simple: location and peaceful

It is convenient to many of the neighborhoods inside Punta Mita, so it works well when you want an easy beach day without spending a long time in the golf cart.

Sunset and the Tale of the Whale

Pacífico has one of the best sunset settings of any beach club in Punta Mita.

You have the Pacific in front of you and the famous Tale of the Whale ocean hole on the golf course in view. Late afternoon into sunset is my favorite time to be here.

The beach

This is a very good beach for relaxing, reading a book and spending a low-key afternoon.

The ocean tends to be calmer than at some of the other clubs, so it can be comfortable for getting in the water. That said, there are rocks and algae in places and only sections of sand bottom.

I think of Pacífico more as a beach where you wade in, cool off and hang around the shoreline rather than a place where I would go specifically to swim.

It is also not my first choice for beach sports. The sand has a steeper angle, which makes it awkward for throwing a frisbee or football or setting up a game of Spikeball.

If your group wants a flat, open beach to play on, Kupuri is much better.

Families and pool

Pacífico is a great family option.

There is a small kids’ playground area and a pool. The pool is perfectly good for taking a quick dip, although if the pool itself is the priority, I prefer Sufi’s pool.

Food

The food quality at Pacífico is solid.

My specific recommendation is the octopus tostada, which is excellent.

Watching sports

Pacífico is also one of the better beach clubs if there is a game you do not want to miss.

The members-only bar area has one large TV, so it can work well for combining a beach day with a major game.

My take: The best all-around everyday choice. Great sunset, family friendly, solid food and convenient from many neighborhoods.

3. Kupuri Beach Club — Best for Families, Swimming and Beach Sports

Kupuri feels the most like a full hotel-resort beach club.

It has large pools, lots of seating and enough infrastructure that you can comfortably spend most of the day there. For families or groups where everyone wants something slightly different, Kupuri is one of the easiest recommendations.

The best sand for actually using the beach

The beach itself is one of Kupuri’s biggest advantages.

The sand is flatter than at Pacífico, which makes it much better for walking, throwing a frisbee, tossing a football or playing beach games.

If you have kids or an active group that wants to do more than sit in a lounge chair, I would choose Kupuri.

Swimming and boogie boarding

Kupuri is also one of the better swimmable beaches inside Punta Mita.

It has a sand bottom and the water tends to be calm. Conditions do change, though. Sometimes it gets choppier and wavier, and when it does, it can be a fun place to boogie board.

Why I like it in summer

Kupuri is a particularly good option during the summer because it tends to be windier.

On a hot day, that extra breeze can make a big difference.

Food: ASAI and two nearby alternatives

One of the highlights at Kupuri is ASAI, the Japanese restaurant at the club. The sushi is fantastic and it is one of the better food options within the beach-club system.

Another tip: if you walk about five minutes down the beach, there are two good beachfront restaurants outside the gates, Mauka and Barracuda.

They are useful when you want a change of scenery and generally a slightly lower price point than dining inside the gates.

Sunrise and sunset

One thing Kupuri does not really give you is a classic sunrise or sunset view.

I would choose it for the beach, pools, swimming and overall resort setup rather than for golden-hour scenery.

Watching sports

Kupuri is probably the best beach club for watching a game because the bar has TVs.

If there is a major NFL, college football, soccer or playoff game on and you still want a beach-club day, this is usually the easiest option.

My take: Best for families and active beach days. It has the strongest combination of pools, flat sand, swimming, food and sports viewing.

4. Sufi Ocean Club — Best for Quiet Mornings, Pool Time and Sunrise

Sufi is a different experience from Surf Club, Pacífico and Kupuri.

It tends to be quieter, and I generally see more adults spending time here. If you want a calm morning, a good pool and less activity around you, Sufi is an excellent choice.

Go early

Sufi is one of my favorite early-morning spots.

It faces the sunrise and there is usually almost nobody there first thing in the morning. If you like swimming laps, this is a great place to do it before the day gets going.

My favorite sunrise routine is to walk out to the end of the pier and watch the sun come up. It is one of the simplest and best morning experiences inside Punta Mita.

The pool is the main attraction

Sufi has a beautiful infinity-style saltwater pool and is one of the better clubs if your priority is actually spending time in the pool.

I prefer Sufi’s pool to Pacífico’s.

Important: Sufi is not really a beach club for the beach

Despite the name, Sufi does not have the kind of traditional sandy beach setup you get at Kupuri or Surf Club.

I would go here for the pool, pier, views, food and quiet atmosphere rather than because you want to spend the day on a wide beach.

Food

The food at Sufi is very good.

Prices can be on the higher side, but the quality is strong. The dinner restaurant is also worth coming back for in the evening, especially if you want a waterfront dinner. The Al Pastor fish is a standout.

My take: Best for adults, sunrise, quiet mornings and pool time. It is not the place I would choose if having a true sandy beach is the priority.

5. Bahía Beach Club — Quiet, Seasonal and Currently Skippable

Bahía is only open seasonally during high season.

It has nice sunset views and a quiet, low-key feel, but at the moment it does not have the same level of infrastructure as the other main Punta Mita beach clubs.

There is less restaurant and seating infrastructure, and the beach is rocky and not especially swimmable.

Until more amenities are added, I generally recommend that guests spend their beach-club time elsewhere.

My take: Nice for a quiet change of scenery in high season, but I would currently skip it in favor of Surf Club, Pacífico, Kupuri or Sufi.

6. St. Regis Sea Breeze Beach Club — Best Resort Option for a Relaxed Sunset

The St. Regis is a beautiful resort option and another excellent place to watch the sunset.

The atmosphere is pretty, relaxed and generally more adult-oriented than kid-focused.

I especially like it for a sunset drink and food rather than for an activity-heavy beach day. If you want a polished resort setting where you can sit down, have a cocktail and enjoy the end of the day, it does that very well.

Unlike the core Club Punta Mita beach clubs, St. Regis access is separate and can be subject to hotel availability, guest status or day-use policies. Confirm current access before planning your day.

My take: A strong adults-oriented sunset option when you have access. I would think of it more as a resort afternoon or sunset experience.

7. Four Seasons Punta Mita — Worth It With Access, Harder to Justify as a Day Pass

Four Seasons Punta Mita has one of the best infinity-pool settings in the area, especially looking toward sunset.

If you are staying at the Four Seasons or already have access through a member or resort guest, it is absolutely worth spending time there.

Why I would not make it my first paid day-pass choice

For me, the beach itself is not the main reason to go.

Compared with the beaches you can access through the other Punta Mita clubs, I do not think the beach experience alone justifies paying a premium day-pass price.

If your rental already gives you access to Pacífico, Kupuri, Sufi and Surf Club, I would use those clubs and put the extra money toward a great meal or another experience.

What I would do instead

If you are not staying at Four Seasons, I would rather go there for a cocktail at Dos Catrinas or a meal at Aramara.

It is expensive, but I think that is a better use of the Four Seasons experience than paying for beach access when you already have excellent beach clubs available elsewhere.

My take: Definitely go if access is included with your stay or you are invited by a member or resort guest. The pool is great. Otherwise, I would usually skip the day pass.

How I Choose a Beach Club Depending on the Day

A social Saturday with friends: El Surf Club. Go for the afternoon, stay through sunset and take advantage of the livelier weekend atmosphere.

A family beach day: Kupuri. The large pools, lots of seating, flat sand and swimmable beach make it the easiest all-day family setup.

A quiet morning: Sufi. Swim early, walk to the end of the pier for sunrise and enjoy the pool before it gets busier.

A convenient afternoon: Pacífico. This is the club I end up at most because it is easy from many neighborhoods and works for almost everyone.

Reading a book on the beach: Pacífico.

Frisbee, football or Spikeball: Kupuri.

Watching a big game: Kupuri first, Pacífico second.

Sunset drinks: El Surf Club for energy, Pacífico for convenience and scenery, or St. Regis for a more polished resort feel.

My Ranking of the Punta Mita Beach Clubs

  1. El Surf Club — my favorite overall and the best atmosphere.
  2. Pacífico Beach Club — the club I use most often because it is convenient and consistently good.
  3. Kupuri Beach Club — best for families, swimming, beach sports and a full resort-style day.
  4. Sufi Ocean Club — best for a quiet morning, sunrise and pool time.
  5. St. Regis Sea Breeze — excellent for a relaxed sunset drink or resort afternoon when access is available.
  6. Four Seasons — beautiful and worth visiting when access is included, but I would not prioritize paying for a day pass if you already have Club Punta Mita access.
  7. Bahía — quiet and seasonal, but currently the easiest one to skip.

Frequently Asked Questions About Punta Mita Beach Clubs

What is the best beach club in Punta Mita?

My favorite overall is El Surf Club because it combines a great beach, surfing and swimming, excellent food, sunset and a livelier social atmosphere.

For families, I would lean toward Kupuri; for convenience, Pacífico; and for a quiet pool morning, Sufi.

Kupuri is one of my top choices because it generally has a sandy bottom and calmer water. Surf Club is also excellent when conditions are right.

Pacífico is better for wading and cooling off than for a dedicated swim.

Kupuri is my first choice for a full family day because of the large pools, extensive seating, flat sand and swimmable beach.

Pacífico is also family friendly and has a small kids’ playground area.

Which beach club has the best pool?

For the core Punta Mita clubs, I prefer Sufi’s pool.

If you have Four Seasons access, its infinity-pool setting is also one of the best in the area.

Where is the best sunset?

Pacífico and El Surf Club are two of my favorites.

St. Regis is also excellent if you want a more relaxed resort setting for sunset drinks.

Which beach club is best for sunrise?

Sufi.

Go early and walk to the end of the pier. It is quiet, faces the sunrise and is one of my favorite ways to start the day in Punta Mita.

Kupuri.

Its flatter beach makes it much better for frisbee, football, Spikeball and long walks. Pacífico’s steeper sand is less comfortable for those activities.

Kupuri is the best option because the bar has TVs.

Pacífico is another option because there is a large TV in the members-only bar area.

Can vacation renters use the Punta Mita beach clubs?

Often yes, but access depends on the membership attached to the specific property.

Do not assume every rental includes every club. Confirm the property’s membership and current access rules before booking or before arrival.

Final Thoughts

One of the best parts of staying inside Punta Mita is that you do not have to choose one beach and repeat the same experience every day.

You can swim at Sufi in the morning, take the family to Kupuri, spend an easy afternoon at Pacífico and make a weekend trip to Surf Club for sunset and music.

If it is your first trip, I would make sure you experience at least Surf Club, Pacífico and Kupuri. Add Sufi for a quiet morning or sunrise. Those four give you a good feel for why the beach-club saystem is such a big part of life inside Punta Mita.

When you book a Punta Mita villa, the membership attached to the property matters almost as much as the house itself. PM Villas can help you choose a property based not only on bedrooms and views, but also on which beach clubs and amenities make the most sense for how your group actually wants to spend the trip.
